Technological advancements in Virtual Reality (VR) and easier access to more affordable computer graphics hardware (Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard, HTC Vive, PsVR and Samsung Gear VR) is changing the ways that we tell stories, allowing for greater interactivity, participation, increase public awareness and emotional engagement.
Virtual Reality course will introduce innovative VR solutions for the presentation of complex cultural heritage sites with immersive 3D computer graphics to the specific needs for cultural heritage documentation and presentations. The focus of the course is to introduce a concept for the integration of historical, architectural, and cultural data related to cultural heritage sites based on immersive VR environment suited for presentation of the digital content.
VR has great potentials for digital heritage application aimed to serve as an “Edutainment” tool. The visitors are able to virtually "enter and explore" the reconstructed heritage environment and learn more on the presented content through virtual experiences. "Edutainment" is an upcoming field that combines education with entertainment aspects thus enhancing the learning environment to be much more engaging and fun-filled.
